What is a Rake?
By Oxford English definition, “a fashionable or wealthy man of immoral or promiscuous habits.” A mid-17th century abbreviation of the archaic 'rakehell.'
Promiscuous? Immoral?
So three hundred years ago.
Meet the contemporary Rake. Wealthy? Possibly. A man? No, not necessarily. Fashionable? Most definitely. But - on the Rake's Own Terms.
Everyone has a code they live by. Call today's Rake a 'raisehell' – with convention, expectation, 'the rules.' Never let 'right' or 'proper' sit or rest for a minute.
The Rake has a Take: on Style, Love, Friendship, Confidence, Success. Unembarrassed, unabashed. Negotiable, but only just ... The put-into-practice epitome of his or her own well-won experience: individualistic in outlook, and encyclopaedic in taste.
Rakes are never afraid to tell you what they think, or show you how it's done. Culled, observed and collected from some of Modern Times' most indubitable, estimable, and acknowledged Rakes are the Rake's Takes: a template for a new 'Rake's Progress.'
